Frequently asked questions
- What notice must an employee receive before a disciplinary hearing?
- The Code of Good Practice: Dismissal requires reasonable time to prepare. Industry practice, and this wizard's guardrail, is at least 48 hours excluding weekends.
- How long do disciplinary warnings remain valid?
- Typical validity periods are 3 months for verbal warnings, 6 months for written warnings and 12 months for final written warnings. Expired warnings cannot be relied on for progressive discipline.
- Are electronic signatures valid for disciplinary documents?
- Yes. Section 13 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act recognises electronic signatures where no specific form is prescribed by law.
